Pokemon TCG: The Alpha (and Omega)
A vendor sets up shop at the first Petrichor TCG Expo event in Fort Collins, Colorado.
I recently had the pleasure of working with a group of friends to promote, host and photograph the first Petrichor TCG (Trading Card Games) Expo at the Drake Center in Fort Collins, Colorado.
If you’re ancient (unevolved?) like me, you might ask—what’s up with “Pokemon?” What’s a ‘TCG?’
Well, the folks who brought me into the fold are part of Pluvia Haus, a newly formed marketing agency in Northern Colorado focused on the arts, boutiques, vintage shops, and independent mechanics, tattoo artists, coffee shops and barbers.
They’re also very into Pokemon, and it turns out so are thousands—tens of thousands, at least—of people young and old from Cheyenne to Denver to Colorado Springs.

We came up with graphic design for print flyers, as well as digital assets for Instragram, Facebook and Google. Booked a venue. Came up with a crew for set up and break down the day of. And made badges. So many badges.

Long story short, the event was a success. 50 vendors with cards, figurines, custom binders and more for sale. Hundreds of buyers eager to find custom and rare cards, their “grail” finds. Ten local artists creating on site. Sponsors included local shops Trinket Station and High Grade TCG, which had had their own grand opening just a day before our event.
There was even a face-painter whose work (and pace!) was awe-inspiring.

I spent the day taking photographs of the unleashed, respectful, ebullient chaos. Everyone, from vendors to newcomers, were overjoyed with the experience. I was overjoyed and overwhelmed, too, with the success of the event.
